At Swanston we are lucky to have a 72 meter square building, that interestingly enough was the temporary clubhouse while the main clubhouse was being built a few years ago. It's fair to say that the building was looking a little tired, so we, along with Swanston New Golf Club have transformed the facility.
Scotland is without question THE Home of Golf. Unfortunately, it is also home to some shocking weather. This is one of the biggest barriers Scottish Golfers face when trying to develop their game. This is why we took the decision to upgrade our indoor facilities to be some of the finest in the Edinburgh area.
It seems almost sad that we've been preparing for the winter during the recent spell of great weather. However, we know the bad weather is coming and we thought we would be proactive and get ready for a GREAT winter of coaching.
Phase 1: The first stage of the changes was to give the room a lick of vibrant paint - huge thanks to Swanston New Golf Club for this. The green added some real colour which has gone down a storm with the juniors.
After the painting was complete we installed a new desk and television to improve the look of Analysis Corner.
Phase 2: was to change the hitting net. As you can see below the old one took a lot of space up which is much needed for the dodgeball arena ;)
The facility now showcases a state of the art hitting net and projector - thanks to GASP Systems and Sportex International for their help.
A big advantage of the new net is that it allows the room to be opened up for our physical activities during the Junior classes via a retractable side. This is pulled out when someone is hitting into the net.
Another HUGE advantage it provides is that It also allows us to project onto it. Meaning that when we combine the net & projector with our Flightscope X2, we can create an indoor driving range that allows you to see exactly what your ball would have done if it were outside - it took Oli ages to hit this one :)
The Tools We Use
When we combine the new upgrades with our
K-vest, SAM BalanceLab and Flightscope X2 we can deliver an extremely thorough analysis of what is happening when you are hitting your shots:
- Flightscope X2 allows us to see what your ball is doing and what is happening when the club hits the ball (impact).
- K-vest shows us what your body is doing when you swing.
- SAM BalanceLab allows us to see how balanced you are and how good at generating ground force you are during your swing.
